Symptoms |
Output error messages saying something like: "Mark replacement failed due to an embedded font subset" indicate the problem. For example: Output 1 surfaces using the plan VPS:VPS.Imposed.300 at priority 40. Created a new process with ID 88 4 seps: C, M, Y, K submitted for processing Mark replacement failed due to an embedded font subset. Message from Extreme: add-marksets Failed processing: 4 seps: C, M, Y, K: processing has completed |

Cause |
When marks are not properly distilled, their fonts may be subset, which means that any text substitutions done on variable marks may fail during output because the complete font definition is missing. When marks are properly distilled, no font subsetting will occur, so all substituted variable mark text will output properly. In Prinergy 1.1, customers must distill their PostScript imposition marks files before the imposition can be added to a Prinergy job. If the marks are not distilled properly (using the Prinergy settings), text substitution may fail during output. |

Solution |
Have the user re-distill their marks using the appropriate "Distill For Prinergy" settings and re-register the imposition. Prinergy 2.0 will automatically normalize marks with the correct settings, although a user can still manually distill marks files incorrectly and then register the imposition with a Prinergy 2.0 job.
