Symptoms |
If your W2K computer is a DHCP client (i.e. you don't have a static IP address) and W2K detects that the cable has come unplugged, by default it automatically stops TCP/IP. This makes Prinergy very unhappy - as soon as TCP/IP disappears, Orbix stuff dies, Extreme JTP stuff dies, DiagView dies i.e. everything dependent on TCP/IP dies, which is pretty well everything. |

Solution |
Whether you have a laptop or not, this is pretty annoying when you expect Prinergy to stay running all the time while you are working with cables, hubs, etc. To disable this "feature", edit two values in the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters - Add a value named DisableDHCPMediaSense of type REG_DWORD and set the value to 1. - Add a value named DisableMediaSenseEventLog of type REG_DWORD and set the value to 1. You will still get a notification from a component in the taskbar tray that you can ignore, but at least you will continue to have a valid TCP/IP address. Permanent fix: |
