Error message: E ... ExtremeSerialNumberFromMACAddress: NetBios NCBRESET error: rc=35

Product

  Windows NT, 2000

Platform

Intel

Operating system

Windows NT, 2000

Error

In Diag only:

E ... ExtremeSerialNumberFromMACAddress: NetBios NCBRESET error: rc=35

Symptoms

Error message: E ... ExtremeSerialNumberFromMACAddress: NetBios NCBRESET error: rc=35, usually on Prinergy startup.

Cause

There is an invalid assumption in our code that eth adapter 0 will always be present in a customer's machines. If the old eth adapter is replaced by a new one, the new one may not be assigned number 0 by NetBIOS.

Solution

Ensure eth0 is always present by rearranging NetBIOS logical eth lana numbers (lan adapter numbers).

You can use the 'lanacfg.exe' utility to rearrange the numbering of the newly installed adapters so that adapter 0 is always present in the system.

Detailed procedure:

1. Download the 'lanacfg.exe' utility from CREO (see link below).

2. Execute the command: 'lanacfg.exe showlanapaths'

3. Take note of the Lana number of your adapter for the TCP/IP protocol reported by the utility (for example, 'Lana: 3')

- example:

- Lana: 3

- -->WINS Client(TCP/IP) Protocol-->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)-->Intel(R) 82544GC Based Network

- *** Lana 0 must be assigned to an enabled network card and an enabled network protocol.

4. Set the Lana number of your adapter to 0: 'lanacfg.exe setlananumber <old Lana#> 0'. For example, in the above case of eth number being 3, use 'lanacfg.exe setlananumber 3 0'.

5. Update the registry with new settings: 'lanacfg.exe rewritelanainfo'

6. Restart the computer

7. (Optional) Verify the new Lana number is 0 by executing: 'lanacfg.exe showlanapaths'.
