Symptoms |
You have a DCS file from Photoshop or Illustrator, placed in Quark XPress. You pour thin, separated Postscript. Refine, with OPI enabled. You get the CMYK data merged, but not the spot color data. |
Cause |
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop both append CVC to the end of the Pantone spot colors. Quark XPress appends only CV. XPress assumes Pantone CVC is the same as Pantone CV. When it writes fat, separated postscript, it includes the spot CVC data with the spot CV. When it writes thin, separated data, it only refers to the spot CV. When the OPI engine is attempting to merge the correct color channels, it cannot find the spot CV, and it doesn't assume CV = CVC, so it doesn't merge anything. |

Solution |
Rename the spot color in XPress to match the color name from Photoshop or Illustrator (that is, change all CV to CVC). Permanent fix: |
