Symptoms |
Trapped text looks bold when viewed in Acrobat. But when RIPed to high-res VPS or to plate, text is okay. |
Cause |
When trapping text, the trapper often has to apply a stroke to text. Acrobat does visual optimization (like anti-aliasing) to text in order to make it more easily read on-screen. Unfortunately, it doesn't do the same to vectors, especially the traps outlining the text. When viewing the page at normal zoom levels (between 50% and 300%), this stroked text looks like it's been "fattened" or made bold. If you zoom to 1600%, or view a 1000 dpi VPS proof, you will see that there is no fattening -- just the normal traps. |

Solution |
In Prinergy 1.x, make a high-res (>1000 dpi) VPS proof to confirm that the text has not been bolded. In Prinergy 2.0, use the Separation Viewer, at 1200 dpi or higher, and confirm that the text has not been bolded. Or RIP to high-res VPS. Permanent fix: |
