Symptoms |
Existing TrapEditor licence key no longer works. |

Cause |
For some reason, some of the dongles are getting flipped into this new state accidentally, and we have to issue new keys using the full ID. There is a mechanism with the dongles that allows us to "downgrade" dongles. For example, XYZ Litho buys the Advanced Trapper. We issue them a licence number, based only on the 5 digit dongle ID. A week later, XYZ Litho says, "Er, well, actually, all we want is the Standard trapper." We send them a NEW licence, enabling only the Standard features and disabling the Advanced. Then they try to be clever: "Aha. We still have a licence key enabling the Advanced features. We just got the Advanced trapper for the price of the Standard. We are *so* smart!" Bizzzzzzt! Wrong! That new licence has flipped a bit in the dongle, so that now the customer *has* to give us the 5 digit ID PLUS the 14 character string. Encoded in that string is the fact that it has been downgraded, and the string will be different each time features are enabled or disabled. This makes all the old licence keys useless. |

Solution |
Have Production issue a new licence, based on the fulll 5 digit, 14 alphanumeric dongle ID number (as reported in the trapper About box). Permanent fix: |
