Symptoms |
Objects that were set to overprint actually knock out the background when rendered. Pitstop and TrapEditor both report that the objects are set to overprint, but the Separation Viewer and VPS proof show they are knocking out. |

||
Cause |
Barco files are raster files. The PDF Out utility is like Streamline on crack -- it converts all the raster information to vector outlines (even the text). PDF Out colors the objects in the /DeviceGrey colorspace. Adobe RIPs assume that overprint settings can be ignored in that colorspace. Barco should have colored them with a different colorspace -- one that allows overprint, like /DeviceCMYK, /DeviceN, /SeparationBlack, etc. |

Solution |
Trap the page with the TrapEditor -- it converts all the /DeviceGray objects to /SeparationBlack, and the overprints now work. Permanent fix: |
