Symptoms |
Black text incorrectly spreads into rich spot color. note: a rich spot color is one with a second hit of some percentage of the same spot color -- akin to a rich black. Any black objects on top of the rich spot color are spread, when they should be choked. |
Cause |
In order for the trapper to apply a stayaway for the rich spot (pull the 2nd hit of spot color in from the edge), the main spot color object must be overprinting on top of the 2nd hit object, and the Neutral Density (ND) of the spot color has to be above the Black Density Limit (BDL). Unfortunatly, when the ND of a spot color has been set this way, when trapping black to any other rich spot colors (and opaque inks), the trapper determines the trap direction from the ink laydown order, not from the luminance of the colors. By default, Black is before any of the rich spot colors, so the trapper spreads the black. |

Solution |
In the TrapEditor, move Black to be the last normal ink printed (but before any opaque inks). Using the Trap JTP, refine once (without colormatching or trapping), then do a second refine (with colormatching and trapping) and set the ink order in the Map Colors dialog box. Permanent fix: |
