Upgrading to Prinergy 2.1 occasionally corrupts the Trap Editor license key

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0 ; Prinergy PowerPack 1.0 ; Prinergy Connect 2.1 ; Prinergy Powerpack 2.1 ; Prinergy Satellite; Supertrap 2 to 3 upgrades

Platform

Operating system

Error

"License Key is expired or licenses are removed from the system."

Symptoms

Problem occurs after installing Acrobat 5.05, and installing the Prinergy plugins.

When the licence keys from Acrobat 4.0.5 are re-entered into 5.0.5, the Trap Editor can see the dongle (the full ID is displayed), but the error message "License Key is expired or licenses are removed from the system" is displayed.

Cause

Trap Editor 2.1 uses a different licensing library, with a slightly different way of storing the key in the dongle. When starting Trap Editor 2.1 for the first time, the dongle is adopted to use the new format.

Under some conditions, if you open Acrobat 4, which still has the old trapper, it writes the date into the dongle. This overwrites parts of the new format, causing the dongle to think that the license key is a temporary one that has expired.

Solution

There are three solutions. Solution 1 and 2 avoid the problem, and solution 3 fixes it:

1. After installation of Trap Editor 2.1, but before opening Acrobat 5, copy the license.dat file from

...\Acrobat 4.0\Acrobat\plug_ins\Prinergy\Config to

...\Acrobat 5.0\Acrobat\plug_ins\Prinergy\Config

2. After installation of Trap Editor 2.1, if you have opened Acrobat 5, enter your existing license key before opening the old Trap Editor in Acrobat 4.

3. If you have opened the new trapper and didn't enter the key, then opened the old trapper, you will have a corrupted key (you will see the "License Key is expired..." message displayed). In this case, the only thing you can do is contact the Creo Response Center with your full Dongle ID code, and request a new license key. Please note that requests for new keys must be forwarded to Heidelberg by Creo, and will take at least 24 hours to process, longer on weekends and holidays.
