Symptoms |
1.) Attempting to open a job window on any Workshop client brings up only the empty frame, then hangs indefinitely without repainting the window fully or responding to user input. 2.) At the same time this is happening, any job windows that are currently open stop displaying updated processing status, even while events are happening, e.g., a plate has finished, etc. 3.) If you use the arxping diagnostic utility, you will see that pinging any Job Daemon works, but pinging the Process Daemon hangs. How to reproduce: Unknown. Run the system for some period of time, doing lots of processing with varying numbers of clients using the system. The problem may or may not occur. |

Cause |
There is an obscure deadlock bug inside the Process Daemon that is extremely difficult to reproduce, track down, and eliminate. | |

Solution |
1) Exit the Process Daemon. Any processes that were currently queued or running will have to be resubmitted. This is the least intrusive way to interrupt the hang, but may not always work. OR: 2) Restart the Prinergy service on all nodes. Really you need to quit the hung Process Daemon on the primary node, but restarting the Prinergy service on the primary node effectively means you must also restart Prinergy on all other nodes as well. This should always fix the problem, but costs more in down time. OR: 3) Reboot the primary node, and restart Prinergy or reboot all secondaries as well. This is even more costly in terms of down time, but has the advantage of completely starting fresh so there can’t be any potential lingering problems like resource leaks, etc. associated with either running the system for a long time or stopping and restarting Prinergy many times without rebooting.
