(1.1) The Archive JTP hangs, warning "No Device Found" error in DiagView

Product

  Prinergy 1.0; Prinergy 1.1

Platform

Operating system

Error

Symptoms

The Archive JTP hangs—last message in process info dialog: “Job ticket queued at service Archive. Both the drives and robotic device affected.

Warning: “No device found. (in Diag View)

Symptoms:

- The tape device fails to perform any tape operations as instructed through Archiver Media Manager, even after it has been configured. The Emulated RSM service doesn’t work; it repeatedly displays a warning in DiagView: “No device found.

-The tape device has a wide, (68-pin) not narrow (50-pin) SCSI target ID. (Note: With a narrow SCSI, device target IDs can range from 0-7, while with a wide SCSI, device target IDs may range from 0-15. Remember this, as it affects what you do as the workaround.)

-The Archive JTP hangs, with the last message in the process info dialog being, “Job ticket queued at service Archive.

-The progress bar stays at 0%.

To reproduce:

1.) Set up a tape device with a 2-digit SCSI target ID, such as 10.

2.) Configure the tape device with Archiver Config Wizard.

3.) Perform an inventory operation through Archiver Media Manager.

Cause

The Config Wizard misinterprets the SCSI target ID from the Registry.

Solution

There are two workarounds:

Assign a 1-digit SCSI target ID to the tape device. Note that the SCSI bus that has the archiving device(s) on it should not have more devices than the number of target IDs provided by a narrow SCSI bus. (See above.)

Or:

Configure the tape device manually using libdiag.exe. Use the command "libdiag.exe -?" for info on how to use libdiag.exe.

Permanent fix: the problem will be eliminated as Prinergy is moved to Windows 2000.
