Symptoms |
Plates are out of register (offset by a fraction of an inch) so that the separations don't line up. |
Cause |
The platesetter uses the leading edge to reference where the image starts. With M1000 and M3000 sized plates, the press (especially a Harris Web press) references the trailing edge of the plate. Since the press and the platesetter don't use the same reference edge, the image location will vary depending on the size of the plate. In the plate manufacturing process, plate are not cut to high tolerances and the size will vary, often by a thousand of an inch. The distance between the image and the trailing edge depends on the plate size, so that's why you see the shift. | |

Solution |
You must rotate the image so that both devices reference the same edge, by setting the rotation in the process plan. To do so: 1) In the Final Output process plan, open the Layout section. 2) In the Placement subsection of the process plan, choose 180° from the Orientation drop-down list. (Note that this is different from what you'd do in a similar situation with Allegro RIP, which uses imposition modifiers in the plate types to tell Allegro to rotate the image.) Permanent fix: |
