Spot colors in Prinergy VPS don't match the recipe specified in the color database

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

Server: Dell or Data General all; Client: PC or Macintosh

Operating system

Server: Windows NT or 2000; Client: Windows or Macintosh

Error

Symptoms

***Applies to Prinergy Connect, Powerpack, Direct, Satellite, depending on installed configuration.***

Some of the spot colors that VPS displays aren't the same as the recipe specified in the global or per-job color database.

Cause

The reason VPS can't see the recipe that was already specified for the spot color is that there is no Creo color tag in the TIFF file for storing the spot color's recipe; this would be the only way that Prinergy could pass the spot color information to VPS. (The only two Creo color tags possible are CREOTAG_COLOR to indicate the C,M,Y,K, R, G, B, or Unknown value; and CREOTAG_COLOR_STR to indicate the actual color name if CREOTAG_COLOR has been set to Unknown.)

VPS does persist the spot color RGB mappings in its own database and pairs them with the spot color name. So VPS only prompts you for what color to display when it can't find the spot color name in its own database.

Solution

VPS is not used for contract proofs, so it's not critical that the colors on screen match exactly the colors on paper.

If it's essential that VPS displays the exact color, then use the color picker every time. If you aren't prompted with the color picker when opening the file, then do the following to access the color picker:

1. In VPS, choose Control from the Tools menu. The Control window appears.

2. In the Control window, double-click the colored square beside the color name. The color picker appears.
