Symptoms |
The customer has a job with CMYK, 2 pantone spot colors, and a varnish. They chose to enter a recipe for the varnish of 0,40,10,0 - this is light pink. Then they did Impress proofs with the color combiner and sent all 7 colors. The proof came out looking (on a first look anyway) like the varnish had disappeared. (In VPS, it wasn't at all obvious there was a difference - the images that the varnish covered were pink-colored anyway.) The varnish was being output correctly and combined to CMYK - the best clue was the sizes of the CMYK files produced were smaller if the varnish wasn't sent than if it was sent. But if you looked carefully in VPS you could see that the output with the varnish was pinker. |

|
||
Cause |
The varnish color contents were specified to be too close to the real content that the varnish overlaps with. This makes it very hard to check the varnish on the proofs. | |

Solution |
Set the recipes for varnishes to 100,100,100,100 and don't send the varnish separation when you're making CMYK proofs with the color combiner. Permanent fix: |
