How do I use PageMaker to create thin PS for Prinergy OPI?

Product

  Prinergy Connect 2.0 ; Prinergy PowerPack 1.0 ; PageMaker

Platform

Server: Dell all; Client: PC or Macintosh

Operating system

Server: Windows 2000; Client: Windows or Macintosh

Error

Symptoms

Scenario:

You want to use PageMaker to create thin PostScript for Prinergy OPI. However, when outputting "For Prepress", if you simply select "Omit Images" with the document linked to the high-resolution images, Pagemaker will still include the high-res images.

This results in:

1) Slower outputting of PostScript from Pagemaker (PS is fat).

2) Not being able to use the Prinergy 2.0.5+ OPI feature of re-compositing spot DCS files during OPI (pour composite thin, get composite fat PDF with spot color CTs).

3) Possibly not being able to recomposite separated Pagemaker PDFs (with Seps2Comp) and re-normalize because there may be several instances of the spot color name in the file.

Cause

PageMaker must be linked to a “linkâ€? file to be able to print thin PostScript.

Solution

Being able to create a PostScript composite thin file avoids this problem.

Additional software:

- CreoScitex's SciNetSpan Pro will create .e sample files for CMYK images.

- ScenicSoft's ColorCentral Sampler (a free component of their ColorCentral product) will also create the link files (“.smp or “.samp) for the DCSs or TIFFs, including those with spot colors. See the ScenicSoft website (www.scenicsoft.com) for a free download.

To create PostScript composite thin :

1. Create links for the DCS/high resolution TIFF files using ColorCentral Sampler.

2. If the link files are in a different location from the originals, remove the “.samp extension (so PageMaker can work with it).

3. Using Links Manager in PageMaker, point PageMaker links to the new link files.

4. Print composite thin PS if using Prinergy 2.0.5 and up (separated thin if below).

5. Fatten in Prinergy using OPI.
