Symptoms |
PDF page elements are incorrectly colored "Registration", which results in hard-to-register elements on press, that is, the elements are on all four color separations instead of on black only. |
Cause |
The page designer colored objects as "Registration". On a monitor, "Registration" looks identical to "Black". Many applications such as Quark and Illustrator helpfully provide "Registration" in the color palettes, which can cause problems on press since, typically, only registration marks should be colored with 100% of all colors. | |

Solution |
A. Go back to the original application to convert the errant objects to Black Only. or: B. Use a Pitstop Action which can automate the conversion post-PDF. This allows conversion of any "Registration" objects to black (K). However, due to a PitStop limitation, this doesn't affect shadings that are Registration-colored. The other effect is that the "real Registration marks" will get converted to K only, which means that if the PDFs need to get output to film without imposition, the marks will be K only.
