Symptoms |
Downsampling and Alternate Images don't work with indexed images (for example, duotones). This results in large PDF master files and large low resolution PDF files. |
Cause |
Indexed colorspaces can be problematic to downsample, because they sometimes represent linework, screenshots, or other kinds of non-continuous tone data that cannot be downsampled without losing image integrity. | |

Solution |
- Does the page content include Photoshop spot duotones? Photoshop spot duotones saved as EPS are not represented correctly in the PostScript, and saving them in EPS format is not recommended in the Photoshop online help. Although they may output correctly to plate, Prinergy cannot generate Alternate Images of them. To fix this, resave the duotone as a DCS and use Prinergy's "recomposite when OPIing into composite thin PostScript" feature to get a better-built composite file that should result in a low-res Alternate Image. - If an image is indexed, you could manually downsample the image using Pitstop or a similar tool.
