Symptoms |
MS Publisher/Word document yields output (VPS, Separation Viewer plugin, final output) with text as "rich black". |
Cause |
Most of the time, MS Word/Publisher will output text as 0,0,0 RGB ("RGB black"). This will process through Prinergy okay, and be correctly rendered as 0,0,0,100 CMYK. However, there are cases where MS Word/Publisher will output the text as 12.9, 12.9, 12.5 RGB ("almost RGB black"). Prinergy cannot determine what this is intended to be (a dark tone, or black), so output is a rich black (text has some of all CMYK components). | |

Solution |
There are two methods of converting the RGB text to CMYK. 1. You can convert the RGB text to CMYK using PitStop Inspector (this is a manual process). 2. You can also use a PitStop Action List to do this automatically (see the attached link to PitStop Action List for converting 'almost RGB Black' to CMYK Black). It might also be possible to change settings on the MS Publisher side so the PostScript represents the black text as a pure RGB black, or better yet, as a CMYK black. However, it is not clear at this time how to do so. Permanent fix: |
