Imposition marks overprint behavior does not behave as expected for Prinergy 2.2.1.10 and higher.

Error

Symptoms

- Prinergy 2.2.1.10 and 11 cause imposition marks to knockout on output. These marks rendered as overprint in Prinergy 2.2.1.9 and earlier.

- White objects on marks disappear.

- only parts of marks file overprint.

Cause

  - In 2.2.1.9 and lower, Prinergy accidentally overprinted all marks files. Luckily, most customers liked this feature.

- In 2.2.1.10, Prinergy would respect the overprint/knockout state of the marks by default (based on a customer request).

- In 2.2.1.12, based on customer complaints, Prinergy switched the default behavior back to the 2.2.1.9 behavior (force overprint on marks files). We introduced a registry switch for the few customers that actually wanted the overprint/knockout state of the marks to be respected.

- In 2.3, with the introduction of Normalizer 6, marks would behave unpredictably (due to the changed way the Normalizer 6 would write objects into different graphics states).

- In 2.3.1.3, Prinergy ignored which graphics state the objects were in, thus bringing the behavior back to 2.2.1.12. However, marks that used white objects (example, glue traps, or slur marks made from white objects) would also overprint (i.e. be invisible).

- In 2.3.1.4, Prinergy's default behavior will be overprint all objects on marks files except for white objects and variable marks. This should yeild results similar to the old early 2.2 behavior.

Solution

- If you want the overprint/knockout state of the marks to be overridden (all objects become overprint, except for white objects), then keep the default MRKJ_RevertToOldOPMBehavior as 1.

- If you want the overprint/knockout state of the marks to be respected (i.e. Prinergy does not override the overprint state, which means that most marks will be knockout), in the registry, change MRKJ_RevertToOldOPMBehavior to 0.
