Symptoms |
Prinergy Workshop on Mac OS X crashes and reports a "Java Application Stub crashed" message, or "com.apple.mrj" messages in the stack trace. |
Cause |
The "com.apple.mrj" information in the stack trace indicates that this is Apple's Java (1.3) that is crashing (as opposed to the Creo Workshop application, which would have appeared as "com.creo..." information). As a result, Creo can do little to remedy this problem. Prinergy 2.x runs in Apple Java 1.3. Creo has tried an experiment to force the current Prinergy Workshop code to run under Apple Java 1.4, which is very different than 1.3, but this resulted in other crashes, as well as some major limitations. |

Solution |
Creo expects that Prinergy 3.x (which begins beta fall 2004) will address most of these issues, because Workshop has been significantly re-written, including use of Apple Java 1.4 (so it can now run under Java 1.4 without limitations, and it is anticipated that 1.4 does not have the crash problem of 1.3). . Some interesting reports about minimizing the frequency of this problem have been passed on from users: Some users report better results with Prinergy Workshop on Mac OS X when: 1. Updating the Mac firmware to the latest available version (note that this does not occur automatically as part of the Apple Software Update mechanism). 2. Adjusting the job Groups in Workshop Job Finder so that all jobs are inside a Group (for example, no jobs are in the "root" of Job Finder). 3. OS X "Keyboard Shortcuts" (accessible from System Preferences\Keyboard) that are pointed to Prinergy Workshop have been shown to cause this problem. 4. One user reported the following: (Prinergy 2.3 uses Java 1.3, so I'm not clear why this would help) In the utilities folder on the mac, there is a Java folder. Inside that is a "Java 1.4.2 Plugins Settings". Launching that, deselect cache, or limit it to a meager amount. 5. In some cases, Java appears to crash in this manner if some of the required fonts are not installed. Specifically, ensure that Lucida Grande, Arial, Helvetica are available to the system. This particular aspect of the problem is fixed in 3.0.3.1. Permanent fix: |
