How do I output spot colors when using TIFF/IT output? |
Cause |
The TIFF/IT format supports only four colors (CMYK) and does not support spot colors in native "spot color" form. People using TIFF/IT as an ad interchange format often have to employ creative workarounds when dealing with spots; for example, outputting CMYK as TIFF/IT set #1, and outputting spots mapped to process colors as TIFF/IT set #2 (for example, mapping ReflexBlue content to Cyan for TIFF/IT set #2). Additional dialog would be required to explain which TIFF/IT was which, and which process color represents which spot color. . When a page with CMYK+Spots is output as TIFF/IT using the CTLW output feature in Prinergy, spot colors are converted to CMYK. |

Solution |
You can output spot colors separately as TIFF/IT by using color mapping and separated Vector PDF output and Recombine. For example, your Input file consists of CMYK + 2 spot colors (S1 and S2). . The procedure is as follows: 1. Import and refine input file. 2. Create new spot colors whose recipe is 100% of one of the process colors. For example, Spot1 = Cyan 100%, Spot2 = Magenta 100%. 3. Re-refine the file using 2ndRef Process Plan with spot color mapping (Map spot colors to the new spots defined in step 2). For example, S1-> Spot1, S2 -> Spot2. 4. Output two separated Vector PDFs to isolate the CMYK content from the spot content (CMYK in one PDF, and 2 Spot colors in the other PDF). 5. Refine the two PDF files with the Re-combine option and generate TIFF/IT output. One TIFF/IT includes CMYK and the other includes Cyan and Magenta separations that were originally spot colors.
