This document describes the procedure for: - Upgrading from a DLT2000 to a DLT4000 - Upgrading from a DLT2000 or DLT4000 to a DLT7000 - Upgrading from a DLT2000, DLT4000 or DLT7000 to a DLT8000 This procedure does not cover how to downgrade a drive, as there will be problems reading archive jobs written on a higher-end drive (for example, a DLT7000 drive using CompacTapeIV with 35Gb capacity) in a lower-end drive (for example, a DLT2000 drive using CompacTapeIII with 10Gb capacity). DLT2000 – 10/20Gb compressed DLT4000 – 20/40Gb compressed DLT7000 – 35/70Gb compressed DLT8000 – 40/80Gb compressed If upgrading from Single DLT drive to tape library or vice versa, please refer to another procedure. |

Solution |
There are 3 steps involved in performing the upgrade/changing archiving device. A. For Prinergy 1.1, use the Archiver Config Wizard to remove the archiving device. Second, re-install the new archiving device. Third, change two registry settings to the appropriate value of the device if only upgrading the drive for the device. NOTE : If you disconnect the device before running Step A below, the config wizard won't be able to remove the device properly. Re-connect the device and make sure it is ON before running the config wizard. STEP A. Removing the archiving device To remove the archiving device: 1. Start the Archiver Config Wizard by selecting Start\Program\Prinergy\Archiver Config Wizard. 2. Select the type of archiving device you would like to configure. 3. Remove the detected DLT tape library or DLT drive. 4. Remove the changer device(s) that are configured in the system. The Archiver Config Wizard will remove the detected DLT device and remove the ERSM services. 5. Finish. 6. Shut down the system and disconnect the existing archiving device and connect the new device. WARNING : When changing device from single end scsi to differential device, you need a different SCSI card and terminator. 7. Power on the device, then power on the system. STEP B. Re-installing the archiving device To re-install the archiving device: 1. Start the Archiver Config Wizard by selecting Start\Program\Prinergy\Archiver Config Wizard. 2. Select the type of archiving device you would like to configure, either a stand-a-lone DLT drive or DLT Tape Library. 3. Add the selected device. 4. Select the changer device(s) that are configured in the system. The Archiver Config Wizard will add the detected DLT device, and add the ERSM services. 5. Enter the name for the selected device. Use the default name such as “DLTTape0 for the first drive detected. If there are multiple drives in the library, it will detect all the devices and add them one at a time. 6. Finish. IF the Archiver JTP and Purge JTP get stuck on startup, remove both JTPs and add them back on. If upgrading the drive or changing Drive capacity, follow Step C. STEP C. Updating the registry 1. Change the key value for DeviceType in the registry. 2. Start regedt32, select HKLM\Software\Creo\Arch PVR 0, select DeviceType, and set to the appropriate type as listed below: · DLT2000 = 1 · DLT4000 = 2 · DLT7000 = 3 · DLT8000 = 4 3. Change the key value of LibraryMediaType in the registry. 4. Select HKLM\Software\Creo\PlateMaster1.2\Archive, change the LibraryMediaType to the appropriate devicename. B. For Prinergy 2.0 using RSM: 1. Power down the system, disconnect the drive, replace with the new one. 2. When starting up, RSM will recognize the new drive properly under computer Management\Device Manager\Tape drive. 3. Update the tape driver to Quantum tape driver, don't use the Mircosoft tape driver. 4. Delete the old drive under RSM/Physical Locations. Permanent fix: |
