(1.1) Migrating from a single DLT drive to a tape library

Product

  Prinergy 1.1

Platform

Intel

Operating system

Windows NT

Error

Symptoms

This symptom is only for Prinergy 1.1:

The Archiver Config Wizard does not work properly to migrate the archiving device. In one case, when upgrading from a Faststor 7 to a Faststor 22, it did not detect any drive. In another case, when upgrading from a single DLT drive to Faststor 22, when all the tapes that had been registered using the single DLT drive were inserted inside the library, Media Manager kept asking to remove the tape from the library.

Cause

Solution

WARNING: When changing from a single DLT drive to a tape library, you may need a differential SCSI card and terminator for the tape library, as a single DLT drive is connected with a single end SCSI card.

Also, when changing drive types, make sure you understand the drive capacity; it is backwards compatible only i.e. a higher drive capacity like the DLT 8000 can read a tape written on a tape drive of lower or same capacity such as the DLT 2000, 4000, 7000 or 8000, but not the other way around.

FOR PRINERGY 1.1:

Insert a bar code for each tape and rename it with the proper bar code label.

1) Write down the current configuration information for the media pools: which tapes are located under which pools; write down the exact spelling and syntax used in the pool names, as you will re-create these later. You can find media pool names using Archiver Media Manager or you can find the media pool names from the registry under: HKLM\software\creo\ARAXI\RSM\MediaPools\Poolidnumber\Name. Save this information exactly as it is listed.

2) Stop the Archive and Purge JTPs from Prinergy Administrator.

3) Make sure the CreoERSMservice is stopped (Control Panel > Services).

4) Open Regedt32.exe.

5) Save the following registry keys to a file for backup purposes (Registry menu > Save Key):

HKLM\software\creo\ARAXI\RSM

HKLM\software\creo\Platemaster1.2

HKLM\software\creo\Arch PVR 0

6) Delete the above registry keys (this will delete all the sub-keys).

7) Re-run the Archiver Configuration Wizard.

8) After the CreoERSMservice starts, open the Archiver Media Manager and re-create all the pools you wrote down in step 1.

9) Open Prinergy Administrator and re-start the Archive and Purge JTPs.

10) Insert all tapes inside the library; it may take a while to perform the inventory. Using Media Manager, open the work queue to check for status. Be patient!

11) After all tapes have been registered in the system, they will all be recognized under the import pool.

12) Drag the tape from the import pool to the appropriate application pool.

13) Add the blocksize value 16 KB in the registry for each tape.\\hkey_local_machine\software\creo\araxi\rsm\logicalMedia, under each media, on the right side, there should be a value AraxiBlockSize. It is in hex; the value is 3136333834. If there is no AraxiBlockSize, add the value in the registry. Add a value as "AraxiBlockSize", data type "REG_BINARY", and type in the value 3136333834. Remember to do this for each tape.

FOR PRINERGY 2.0:

Insert a bar code for each tape and rename it with the proper bar code label.

See the procedure "Configuring Tape Devices on a W2K Server" by navigating to the Archiver Hardware site (http://intranet.creo.com/support/html/workflow/archiver_hardware/index.htm), selecting the appropriate device, and going to that device's Installation page.

Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0
