Symptoms |
If NT Backup was set up using the same device as the Archiver, then archive and backup operations can fail. |
Cause |
In Prinergy 1.1, running on NT4, Backup requires a dedicated tape drive, which includes the Basic NT Backup option. The Basic Backup option does not include a device for backup. Customers must order a second device or provide their own. If they did not purchase a second device, there is a reasonable chance that NT Backup was set up using the same device as the Archiver. Risks of sharing the tape device: - If the Prinergy archive tape is in the drive, it can be easily erased by NT Backup. - The operator must manually change the tape; there is a higher risk that backup will not be completed if the operator forgets to change the tape. - There is NO risk to the database backup. It’s backed up to disk. Note: Basic and Offline Backup shuts down Prinergy at the determined time. The default is at 3 a.m. If archives are running at that time they will fail. |

Solution |
We cannot share backup and archive on same tape device for Prinergy1.1 running on NT4. Backup and archive must have dedicated devices. But, we CAN share the same device to run backup and archiving for Prinergy 2.0 running on W2K. Permanent fix: |
