Symptoms |
Legato is making tapes read-only. |
Cause |
The problem may be stemming from the browse and retention periods we set. We set the browse and retention policy for 1 week. When the week passes, the tape goes into a recyclable mode. Legato keeps track of when the last full backup was done and it will keep the incremental backups done on each tape until another full backup is done. At that time Legato will allow you to recycle the tape. We found that if the tape gets into the recylcable mode, it also becomes read-only. | |

Solution |
To make the tape writeable, you must re-label it. To re-label the tape: 1. In Networker Administrator click on the Devices button. 2. Right-click on the tape device \\.\TapeX and select the Operations option. 3. Click on the Label button. 4. Click OK. Note: When the tape is re-labeled, the data on the tape will be erased. Therefore you should only re-label the tapes as needed. Instruct the customer on how to re-label tapes so they can do it when required. To search for information on this problem, go to: http://web1.legato.com/tech_dialog/main_lefaq.html. Also read the document "How NetWorker Determines When to Use Recyclable Tapes", in the Related Links section (below). Permanent fix: |
