Symptoms |
Scheduled tasks such as the Oracle database backup don't get launched. The Windows Critical Update Notification somehow screws up the Task Scheduler. The Notificaton is scheduled to run every 5 minutes. After a reboot, the Task Scheduler works fine until the Windows Critical Update Notification is launched. The Task Scheduler does not seem to be successful in launching the Notification (does not appear in the D:\WinNT\schedlgu.txt) and has "Never" in the Last Run Time column in Task Scheduler GUI). After the first scheduled Update Notification, the scheduled tasks do not get launched. The are no entries in the event logs or in the schedlgu.txt. |

Cause |
The ghost images for W2K at present include the Windows Critical Update Notification. Check the Task Scheduler (Start\Programs\Accessories\SystemTools\Scheduled Tasks), and check if the Windows Critical Update Notification is present. If it is not present, then the problem might be caused by something else. If the Notification is scheduled to run every 5 minutes, but has never run, try scheduling a task using AT command and check if it runs. | |

Solution |
Uninstall the Windows Critical Update Notification (Control Panel\Add Remove Programs). Restart the Task Scheduler service. Schedule a task using the AT command and verify that it runs. Permanent fix: |
