Error |

Symptoms |
1. After installing Prinergy, Administrator shows Diagnostics View Daemon terminating and restarting continuously. 2. With the Araxi service stopped, typing diagserver -? at a command prompt yields a message box saying that the entry point Py_HKEY_??? cannot be found in the DLL PyWinTypes15.dll. |

Cause |
The Diagnostics View Daemon serves the DiagView client application to monitor the Prinergy diagnostics log. It is implemented using the Python scripting language, and consequently requires the Python interpreter DLLs to be correctly installed on the system. An incompatible version of PyWinTypes15.dll (and possibly other Python DLLs as well) may have been installed on the system. Possible reasons for this are: 1. Uninstalling a newer version of Prinergy, and installing an older version, leaving some incorrect DLLs on the system (due to uninstaller bugs). 2. Installing Print Console test script package, which may install a different version of the Python DLLs. 3. Installing another software package that installs different versions of the Python DLLs. 4. Installing an incompatible version of the standard distribution of Python itself. |

Solution |
1. Ensure Prinergy is stopped. 2. Navigate to the %SystemRoot%\system32 folder, usually D:\WINNT\System32. 3. Locate the file PyWinTypes15.dll. 4. Inspect its version number, for example, in Explorer, right click, select Properties, then select the Version tab. 5. If it says Build 132, this is for Prinergy 2.0.4 Build 32 and later. 6. If it says Build 123, this is for earlier versions of Prinergy 2.0 and 1.1. 7. If it says any other version, it was not installed by Prinergy. 8. Rename the existing DLL, and copy the Build 123 version of PyWinTypes15.dll from a known good Prinergy system. 9. With Prinergy still stopped, at a command prompt, type diagserver -?. It should now print command line help text to the console window and exit instead of failing with the pop-up message box. 10. If diagserver -? works normally, the Python DLLs should be correct. Restart Prinergy normally, and verify that the Diagnostics View Daemon runs normally. Permanent fix: |
