Symptoms |
Files that generate a display or source list greater than 2 GB fail in Adobe RIP. Usually when the limit is reached, you will end up with a PostScript error, usually a limitcheck error, but we have seen a number of different errors. Imposition won't proof or output to plate. |

Cause |
The Adobe RIP has a display and source list size limitation of 2 GB. Files that generate a display or source list greater than 2 GB fail. In order to tell whether this limit has been reached, you can monitor the drive space left on the TEMP drive. If you submit a file, and the 'Free Space' drops from 6 GB to 4 GB, chances are this limit has been reached. To get a more accurate reading, you can navigate to the TEMP drive and monitor the file size of the 'PSslist.x ' or "PSDlist.x" file. This is the display list file that gets created when you submit a file to the RIP for processing. You can monitor the growth of this file by hitting refresh (F5) in NT Explorer. The PSslist. x file can be found in the following directory on the server you want to monitor: 'E:\Temp\JTPname_TEMPDIRRIP' (See the Render Station Temp directory screenshot in the Related Links section, below.) |

Solution |
As a workaround, you can split the imposition in two and double burn the plate to get the job out. The other possibility is to rasterize the file by RIPing the loose pages into DCS then placing them back into the imposition. Removing the 2GB limitation is entirely dependent on Adobe. There is no guarantee of if or when the 2 GB limit will be removed. Permanent fix: |
