Symptoms |
Prinergy 2.0.7 will not process an input file containing transparency unless the file is "flattened" in the creating application before being added to a Prinergy job. Prinergy 2.1 will process a file with transparency if the file is flattened before Prinergy, or, Prinergy 2.1 will flatten the file at the Normalizer stage before continuing to process the file. For more information, refer to the technical bulletin "PDF 1.4 and Acrobat 5: Implications and Solutions for Creo Workflow Customers" in the See Also section, below. |

Cause |
This is due to limitations in the current Adobe RIP. | |
|

||
Solution |
According to Adobe, some things to try are: - ALWAYS set flattening to High Quality/Slow Speed. - Set transparency (rasterization) resolution to 300 dpi in Illustrator. - Set Output Resolution to 2400 dpi. - Clip complex region (for L2 RIPs). If you do not do this, you may get limitcheck errors. - Use flattening preview to see which objects will be flattened (Raster Effects setting). - Preset and save printing preferences in InDesign 2.x to ensure consistent high-quality flattening. - Embedded EPS in Illustrator (with transparency effect applied) must be flattened before importing into the layout application. - Save as Illustrator 9 or 10 EPS. Saving as Illustrator 8 may cause spot colors may be lost. - If a spot color is intended to be printed as process, specify this in Illustrator/InDesign, not in Prinergy. - ALWAYS check high-resolution proofs carefully to ensure that adverse flattening effects such as rasterized text haven't occurred. For more detailed guidelines, see Adobe's Print Service Provider Toolkit/Illustrator poster, or the Adobe website for the "Achieving Reliable Print Output with Transparency" document. Note that PostScript (printer markup language) will never support transparency, but flattening of PDF 1.4 files at the Normalizer will be possible in Prinergy 2.1. However, this does not help the cases where transparency files have already been flattened to EPS, PostScript of PDF 1.3. Permanent fix: |
