Single-pixel or very fine lines appear in high-resolution image

Error

Symptoms

Single-pixel white lines or very fine light or dark lines appear in a high-resolution image in copydot content placed using QuarkXPress 4.0x and output from QuarkXPress omitting images. The image can be on plate, film, or Approval/Spectum proof.

Cause

One of the QuarkXpress 4.0x delayed drag modes corrupts the coordinates of the placement picture box and image position. If the document is output omitting images, the errors are written into the OPI comments. This causes a slight scaling when the images are replaced that does not affect contone images but causes duplication or drop-out of pixel rows and columns for copydot images.

Solution

Once it occurs, the problem can only be corrected by re-placing the image in QuarkXPress in a new picture box.

To prevent the problem, in the interactive application preferences in QuarkXPress either:

a) set the Delayed Item Dragging mode to "Show Contents", or

b) set the delay threshold to a large value such as 10 sec.
