Symptoms

You get the following errors in the history log when you attempt to output a proof/plate/film:

Mark replacement failed due to an embedded font subset.

Message from Extreme: add-marksets Failed processing.

When you distill the PostScript marks file to PDF, Acrobat Distiller will embed the fonts required to image the marks data. However, many of the original marks are simply placeholders that get replaced during the output process. For example, you create a mark called [$JobName] which will be replaced at output time with the specific job name that you are using the imposition in.

Cause

The error occured because the PostScript marks file embedded the font data for just the characters "[$JobName]" and not the entire font set. Then, when the MarksJTP went to update the marks PDF with the real job name ("Test Job"), it was unable to find the font data for the 'T', 's' and 't' characters.

Solution

Ensure you distill the PostScript marks file using the "Prinergy Marks" job options. If the file "Prinergy Marks.joboptions" is missing from the Acrobat Distiller settings folder, then you will need to copy the one shipped with Prinergy, which should be found on any Prinergy server as %ARAXIHOME%\CreoAraxi\Bin\Adobe\Prinergy Marks.joboptions.

To install: Shut down Acrobat Distiller. Copy the file %ARAXIHOME%\CreoAraxi\Bin\Adobe\Prinergy Marks.joboptions to Acrobat's Distillr\settings folder. On the PC, this is usually in Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 4.0\Distillr\Settings. On the Mac, this is usually found in Adobe Acrobat 4.0:Distiller:Settings. Restart Acrobat Distiller and re-distill the PostScript marks file.

Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0
