Symptoms |
When missing fonts or missing images are detected as errors by the Optimizer JTP during Refine, for some input files, the Optimizer JTP will terminate. |
Cause |
Optimizer JTP is responsible for detecting missing fonts and images during Refine. If it detects either of these on a PDF page and "Fail on missing fonts" or "fail on missing images", respectively, is enabled in the Refine process plan, then Optimizer JTP will report an error and attempt to draw a conspicuous black X across the offending page. This particular problem occurs because Optimizer JTP has a problem while it is trying to draw the big X on the offending PDF page, resulting in the program terminating unexpectedly. |

Solution |
If Optimizer JTP does terminate, Prinergy must be restarted on the Primary server in order to get Optimizer JTP running again. To avoid this problem: Disable "Fail on missing fonts" and/or "Fail on missing images" in the Refiner process plan. With this change, the Optimizer JTP will not treat missing fonts or missing images, respectively, as errors but only as warnings and so it will not attempt to draw the big X on the offending PDF pages. NOTE: With these safeguards disabled, be mindful of warnings about missing fonts and images and carefully check proofs of pages which cause these warnings during Refine. Permanent fix: |
