When you configure a Windows machine as a Print Spooler, Windows requires a temporary directory where it can spool the print files as they are submitted to the print spool (mainly required because data can generally be spooled faster than the printer can handle). The default behaviour of the Windows Print Spooler is to save the print data to the system disk. In the Prinergy system, it has been found that this added I/O to the system disk affects performance (as the Windows page file is also on the system disk). The suggested location of the Windows Print Spooler is on the TEMPorary disk. However, if the customer is doing a lot of large format plotter proofs (i.e. Iris, Epson, HP, or others), you may find that the print spool files can rapidly fill up the TEMP drive. This can cause problems in Prinergy, because Oracle needs to write to this drive as well. The problem gets worse if a customer misses a daily backup. In these cases, it is best to put the NT spool files on the customer's RAID. See the section entitled "Changing the Print Spool Directory" in the Prinergy Installation Guide (can be found in the index under "print spool directory, changing"). Follow the instructions that are outlined there. Permanent fix: |
