Symptoms |
When distilling PostScript from FrameMaker, objects defined in FrameMaker as CMYK become RGB. When the PDF is fed through Prinergy Refiner, the ColorConverter will convert the RGB to CMYK. You may not notice for many colors (although they will likely be subtly different than the original CMYK), but you will notice that 100% black objects have become rich black. NOTE: If the FrameMaker PostScript (not distilled PDF) is input to Prinergy Refiner directly, this problem does not occur. |

Cause |
The FrameMaker PostScript is choosing to convert CMYK objects to RGB when it is processed by Adobe's Distiller. The stock Distiller, without the Prinergy "Distiller Plug-in" does not prevent the FrameMaker PostScript from doing this. The "Prevent FrameMaker RGB" stuff is a startup file that is part of Prinergy Normalizer and comes with the "Mininorm" add-ons to Distiller. FrameMaker PostScript has some logic that tests the RIP to see if it is Distiller. If the RIP is Distiller, FrameMaker will set the colorspace to /DeviceRGB and paint all objects in this colorspace. |

Solution |
Install the Prinergy Distiller Plug-in (available at http://www.prinergy.com/downloads.html) on your copy of Adobe Acrobat Distiller. This plug-in is capable of detecting FrameMaker PostScript and preventing it from converting CMYK objects to RGB while it is processed in Distiller. Permanent fix: |
