Here is the configuration logic for the pagefile: For Windows 2000: The convention is PageFile = InitialSize = Recommended Size (1.5xRAM, i.e. RAM=1GB, PageFile=1.5GB; RAM=2GB, PageFile=3GB) = Max.Size. For WinNT4: The convention is PageFile = InitialSize = Recommended Size (11MB+InitialSize. i.e. RAM=1GB, PageFile=1.11GB; RAM=2GB, PageFile=2.11GB) = Max.Size. Where to put (both W2K and NT4): For Data General: Has C: FAT partition = 2GB, so the pagefile goes here first. When C: runs out, then span it onto D: (System drive). For DELL: Has C: NTFS partition = 31MB should have no pagefile at all, (its meant to have the same drive letter arrangement as DG to help make 1.1 - 2.0 migration scripts more platfrom independent). So the pagefile should always go to D: (system drive) no matter how big it is. If it runs out then consider spanning some to E: drive. If this causes excessive system paging, then the spanned pagefile should go to J: (the data drive). Permanent fix: |
