Slow performance during normalizing and outputting

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

Operating system

Error

Symptoms

Slow performance during normalizing and outputting.

Cause

TEMP and TMP system environment variables are set incorrectly. The TEMP and TMP environment variables should be set to the DATALOG (or DATA drive on a render station).

NOTES:

1) The DATALOG drive is typically the E: drive on the Primary and Secondary servers, some Render stations have the D: drive as the DATA drive. Check the configuration in Explorer before setting the environment variables.

2) For Windows 2000, the TEMP and TMP User Environment variables must also be set to the temp directory along with the System Environment variables. To do this, you must log in using the same NT account that is used to start the Araxi service.

3) The DATALOG drive or DATA drive should have write caching enabled to improve performance. The Adaptec EZ-SCSI Utilities can be used to enable write caching.

Solution

To configure the WinNT environment variables TEMP and TMP for use with Prinergy:

For NT 4:

1) Open Control Panel | System.

2) Go to the Environment tab.

3) In the System Variables list box, scroll down until the TEMP and TMP variables are visible.

4) Highlight the TEMP variable.

5) At the bottom of the window, change the value to be the DATALOG or DATA drive letter (example E:\TEMP for the DATALOG drive).

NOTE: On some Render stations, the DATA drive may be the D: drive.

6) Click on SET to save the change.

7) Do the same for the TMP environment variable, that is, set it to the same drive letter as above (E:\TEMP in our example).

8) Click APPLY and OK to exit the window.

9) Reboot the server.

For Windows 2000:

1) Log in with the NT account used to start the Araxi service (typically ARAXI).

2) Open Control Panel | System.

3) Go to the Advanced tab.

4) Click on the Environment Variables... button.

5) Highlight the User Variable TEMP and click EDIT.

6) Change the value to be the DATALOG or DATA drive letter (example E:\TEMP for the DATALOG drive).

NOTE: On some Render stations, the DATA drive may be the D: drive.

7) Highlight the User Variable TMP and change it to point to the DATALOG or DATA drive.

8) Highlight the System Variables TEMP and TMP and change them to point to the DATALOG or DATA drive.

9) Click OK.

10) Click APPLY and OK to exit the window.

11) Reboot the server.
