Hints for using Seps2Comp with Prinergy

Error

In Prinergy, you are currently unable to trap or colour manage any pre-separated data. However, if you do need to perform these tasks (predominantly colour management), it will be necessary for you to use Creo's Seps2Comp Acrobat plugin to convert the separated data to composite. The best time to combine the data using Seps2Comp would be after the first refine (and then make sure you add and re-refine the data after it has been combined).

Symptoms

Cause

Solution

(1) There is a bug in Acrobat v5/5.05 when using the PS L3 option of Seps2Comp; this bug results in an incorrect file (objects are not coloured correctly) being generated (see KISO-0000473). The workaround is to use the "PS L2, Spot Color plates are not merged" option or Seps2Comp with Acrobat v4.05.

(2) If you have spot colours that are composed only of 100% of a single process ink, you need to tell Seps2Comp that it is indeed a spot colour. You can check this by going to the "Configure Ink Set" dialog. As a general rule, you should probably check the "Configure Ink Set" settings prior to every conversion. This should be done with all Seps2Comp + Acrobat versions.

(3) If the intention is to create a composite file for the purposes of MANUAL trapping, then you should use the PS L3 option of Seps2Comp for conversion. This will create a file that is much more efficient to MANUALLY trap. Of course you can use the PS L2 option but this will just create a file that will require more time to trap (actually it MAY be impossible to trap). If you are exclusively using the trapper JTP, then this is NOT an issue (you can use either the PS L3 or "PS L2, Spot Color plates are not merged" options).

(4) If you are using Seps2Comp for the purposes of creating a file that Prinergy can colour manage, then the "PS L2, Spot Color plates are not merged" is sufficient to use.
