Proofing process fails to complete

Error

Symptoms

The symptoms will vary. "Process fail to complete" is the most common symptom.

Cause

Prinergy uses the NT print manager to spool to printers. The default location for the printer spooling directory is the system drive, but this default location is not suitable, because the print spoolers can consume a tremendous amount of disk space that is needed for Prinergy. Users must change the location manually.

Solution

CreoScitex recommends that you to change the default spooling directory and disable the printer notification. The global default location for all printers spool files is: %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS. There are two important reason to change this:

- The system drive may not be large enough to spool large jobs especially if there is allot of activity.

- To off load the disk activity on the system drive. There is a dedicated working drive (TEMP Drive) on Prinergy server to accommodate the spooling directory.

To change the printer spooling directory:

1. Under the Start menu, go to Settings/Control Panel/Printers.

2. In the File menu, click “Server Properties and select the “Advanced tab.

3. Type the desired path in the Spool Folder box and click “OK.

Note: You can also change the spooling directory for each printer with requires modification of the registry. More detail in PR# KISO-104800

To disable printer notification:

1. Uncheck Notify when remote documents are printed.

Note: Specifying only the root directory (for example: C:\) will result in an error message of “Server spool directory location is invalid. Use C:\<directory>.

This defines a new global default location for all printers to place spool files.
