How to resolve the Microsoft DLT Driver Error Message on Startup (Prinergy 2.1)

Product

  Prinergy Connect 2.1

Platform

Operating system

Error

Prinergy 2.1. includes a new warning on startup to help diagnose situation where the wrong (Microsoft) driver is loaded for a DLT tape device.

Symptoms

On Starting Prinergy, An error dialog is displayed indicating that an incorrect tape driver is loaded for one or more devices.

Cause

Windows 2000 ships with a default tape driver for DLT devices. This driver does not work with Prinergy and we have seen many support calls related to this problem in the past.

Prinergy 2.1 adds a new message to let customers and the RC know about the problem before symptoms are abserved

Solution

Open the Windows 2000 device manager and look at the driver page from the properties for each LT device. Replace any Microsoft drivers with the Quantum 1.7 driver shipped on the resource CD or availiable on the Intranet.

Re-boot the system and re-start Prinergy. There should be no error message displayed.

Note that the installation process for the new Quantum drivers will not prompt for a re-boot. However, if you do not re-boot, the registry entries for the old Microsoft tape drivers will not be cleaned up and Prinergy will continue to complain.

If a customer has many tape devices attached to their system, you can identify which drives have the wrong driver loaded by using the device name provided in the error message. eg: \\.\tape0

The properties for each drive in the RSM includes this device name as well as the SCSI information for the drive. The Device manager shows SCSI information under each drive's properties.
