Error

A DCS Set may fail to normalize with the following errors:

Error for the file filename.eps: %%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: II* ]%%.

Info: %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%; from the file filename.eps.[%%[

Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%; from the file filename.eps

Symptoms

The file will also fail in Adobe's distiller. However, all component files verify correctly and can be displayed in the Copydot Toolkit.

Cause

This error occurs when trying to normalize a DCS set that consists of .TIFF seperations.

Solution

DCS with TIFF HiRes is usually only seen in ArtQuest and a 'bypass' workaround for Barco - one option may be for the customer to generate postscript rather than .TIFF seperations from the original application.

or

Use Quark to write a file with an OPI link to these .TIFF files. Prinergy should be able to be process this file.

Version 1:

Create a DCS 2 Multi file set with an OPI link file. Place the OPI link file in QuarkXPress and print composite PostScript with include images turned on. Quark will embed the OPI link file comments. When Prinergy receives the PostScript it will go out and pick up the separated HiRes files. At this point it should no longer care if the HiRes is TIFF or EPS because in the process of being merged the TIFF is converted to PostScript. It has to be done via OPI though, because the Normalizer expects embedded DCS HiRes to be EPS.

Version 2:

Create a DCS 2 Multi file. Place the control file in QuarkXPress and write thin or chunky composite PS. Quark will create its own OPI comments. When the PS gets to Prinergy it will go out and pick up the separated HiRes files. The only difference here is that QuarkXPress is creating the comments instead of the OPI link file. The other issue here is that the behavior is different depending on the version of QuarkXPress. If it is QuarkXPress 4 then you'll need to use the OPITaylor Xtension to get it to work... otherwise this fails.
