Error

Archiver reports a warning message that it does not recognize the SDX-700V

In diagnostic log:

Unknown tape device type detected: SONY SDX-700V

The free space returned by medium 0001 is less than currently reserved: free space = 18446744073709551615 bytes, reserved space = 1262218474 bytes

COMN_exception thrown while archiving files in medium thread: '5908' archive failed - code = 1000002; developer-speak message = ' value 18446744073709551615 at least one of the two most significant bits are set.'; localized message = '( code = 1000002 )'

Symptoms

Archive fails and reports a warning message that the device cannot be recognized. NTBackup may work fine.

The AIT-3 tape drive may be standalone (model SDX-D700V) or installed in a library (SDX-700V). An external drive will have the model printed on a sticker on the underside of the device. An internal SDX-700V drive can be indentified by the f/w version (0100) and the s/n in the format of 135xxxx.

Cause

Sony has discontinued the SDX-700C and SDX-D700C (C-series) drives and replaced them with the SDX-700V and SDX-D700V drives respectively. The V-series drives can operate in C-series emulation mode. Archiver requires the drives to emulate the C-series version to work properly.

Solution

The DIP switches should be configured as follows:

DIP switch 8 should be set to OFF.

All other DIP switches (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) set to ON.

DIP switch Setting

1 On

2 On

3 On

4 On

5 On

6 On

7 On

8 Off

The DIP switches in the standalone SDX-D700V are located under the device. You will need a small slot-head screwdriver to access them.
