Error

Replication Job would not run.

Server status is unavailable in VSR Admin Console.

Replication Pair creation fails with the error:

### pair creation failed for job Prinergy Database, RXRESULT_RMSError

Symptoms

Any of the following symptoms might show up:

1. Replication Job would not run.

2. Server status is unavailable in VSR Admin Console

3. When creating a Replication Job using the "Create&StartPrinergy-DatabaseJob.cmd" script, it encounters an error RSRESULT_RMSError.

4. When launching the VSR Admin console from the failover server, it fails to start wit a pop-up error "The console could not connect to the Replication Master Server. There was an unknown error connecting to the RMS.

5. The following application error in the event viewer:

Description:

Storage Replicator service initialization failed. : Initialization failed. : Cannot communicate with the filter drivers - (NT error The system cannot find the file specified.).

Cause

VSR may have been uninstalled or re-installed without rebooting the server. A reboot is required after uninstallation and rebooted again after installation. Otherwise, some drivers would not be properly installed, and the replicaton service will not start.

VSR installs the following services in the servers (all set to Automatic startup):

- ENL

- Storage Replicator RSA

- Storage Replicator RMS (Prinergy Primary only)

VSR installs the following filter drivers in the servers (Check under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Services):

- RxFsFltr

- RxFsRec

- RxJnlWrt

When VSR was uninstalled/installed without rebooting, the filter drivers will not be installed completely.

Solution

1. Reboot the servers in the replication neighborhood (primary and failover server).

2. Launch the VSR Admin Console. If all server show as online, proceed to step 5.

3. If failover server status is Unavailable, uninstall VSR from the failover server. Reboot the failover server.

4. Install VSR in the failover server. Reboot the failover server.

5. Verify that the servers are shown as online in VSR Admin Console.

6. Recreate the replication job using "Create&StartPrinergy-DatabaseJob.cmd" script.

7. If the job creation encounters a RMSError (see symptoms item 3) or job state is "Never Run", stop the ENL and Storage Replicator services in the primary and failover server. Restart the services in the failover server. Restart the services in the primary server.

8. Recreate the replication job and verify that it runs.
