How to replace AIT3-C with an AIT3-V drive

Product

Platform

Operating system

Windows 2000

Error

When the AIT3-C drive was replaced with an AIT3-V drive, RSM encounters problem configuring the drive.

Symptoms

The AIT3-V drive does not install properly in Windows, and RSM cannot properly use the drive.

Cause

Qualstar 4xxx libraries need at least firmware version 2.23 to recognize AIT3-V drives.

Solution

1. To support AIT3-V drives, the library firmware should be v2.23. Update the library firmware if required.

2. Shutdown the server and power off the library

3. Remove the AIT3-C drive from the library.

4. Install the AIT-V drive

5. Power up the library.

6. Open the library door. From the front panel, go to Menu\Configuration\Drive\Tn\Mdl (Tn is the drive position of the new drive with T1 as the top position)

7. Press Enter from the front panel.

8. Press the up arrow until the model SDX-700V/L is shown.

9. Press Exit several times until you get to the top menu.

10. Close the front door. The library will reinitialize.

11. Boot up the server.

12. Install the driver of the tape drive.

13. Update the tape drive firmware if required.

14. Verify that the library and the new drive are functioning properly.

15. Place the library back into production.

Refer to section 5.6 of the TLS-4000 Installation and Operation Manual for tape drive installation procedure.
