Symptoms |
A retrieve task goes into a "waiting for operator intervention" state with a message requesting a specific tape be inserted into a library or drive. Unfortunately, that tape is not available. It is known that the job being retrieved was archived to more than one media pool, and the tapes from that other pool are available. However, the user has no way of determining which one of the tapes in the other pool the data would be on. (The situation might be as follows: A customer may choose to archive jobs to multiple media pools, for example a “near-line pool and an “off-site pool. The intent is that once a tape in the “off-site pool is full, it would be taken away.) |

Cause |
In Prinergy 1.0 and 1.1, the archiver does not use media pool information to help select which tape to use for a retrieve when more than one can satisfy the request, though it will use a tape that is in a library if one with the requested files is in a library. The problem arises when no tape with the requested files is in any library or tape drive. In that case it's somewhat arbitrary as to which of many tapes the system will prompt for. |

Solution |
1) Note the medium being requested. 2) Use the Archive Media Manager to "disable" that medium. 3) Abort and re-submit the task. This time it will prompt for another tape if there is one with the requested data. Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0 |
