Symptoms |
A file is created in Illustrator 8.0.1 and contains TIFFs, DCS, and EPS images as well as a Photoshop duotone. Separated PS is made from Illustrator and brought into Prinergy. The separated PDF looks okay but when Seps2Comp 1.5 is used, the composite PDF draws all of the images, then all of the images except the ones in TIFF format get "covered" up with white. Viewing the file with SepViewer shows that the images are there, just not being displayed by Acrobat. |

Cause |
The problem is with Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (or 4.05), not Seps2Comp (S2C). If the Preview in S2C 1.5 and S2C Plateview match up, but Acrobat doesn't display things properly, that's because Acrobat 4 doesn't display overprinting properly. So you often get the image displayed and then covered up by a white layer. This display limitation of Acrobat 4.0 was one of the major reasons for the Intense Group using the code from Prinergy's Separation Viewer to make S2C Plateview. As long as the Preview in S2C and the display of S2C Plateview match up (except for color), the PDF should print properly, regardless of what Acrobat 4.0 (or 4.05) displays. |

Solution |
Ignore the default Acrobat display. Verify the page with PlateView (SepViewer) or VPS proof. Or upgrade to Acrobat 5 and use the Overprint Preview feature. Permanent fix: |
