Symptoms |
Gradient mesh is defined in Adobe Illustrator to be made up of spot color(s), but instead it gets converted to CMYK. |
Cause |
Spot color gradient objects can only be defined as CMYK or a single spot color. If the gradient mesh has 2 spot colors or a mixture of CMYK and spot colors, the entire mesh object gets converted to CMYK by Adobe Illustrator. | |

Solution |
Go through all of the nodes in the gradient mesh object and ensure that they are defined with the same spot color. You must ensure that no other colors are used. If the mesh is to contain white areas, use 0% of the spot color to define the white, DO NOT use CMYK white. There may be a great many nodes in the gradient object, and if a single one is defined with a different color, then the whole mesh will be converted to CMYK, so be sure to check them all.
