Symptoms |
An Adobe Illustrator gradient that goes from a spot color to process or that contains 2 spot colors, has colors missing or incorrect appearance when the entire file is converted to CMYK in the color matcher. |
Cause |
Adobe Illustrator versions earlier than the CS version (version 11) created spot color gradients by overlapping 2 or more shadings on top of one another and setting them to overprint. When overprinting objects are converted to process, if the top object paints a lighter value than the top object, it will appear that the top object knocks out what is underneath. | |

Solution |
1. Open and re-save the Adobe Illustrator file in version 11 (CS version). 2. Adjust the gradients in Illustrator so that they are created with CMYK colors instead of spots. For example, convert to CMYK in Illustrator instead of Prinergy. . Note that the 'Overprint Handling' feature in 2.3.1.3 may allow proper handling of these objects. Permanent fix: |
