Prinergy proofing images have wedges of detail missing on contone (256 shades) output

Product

  Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

Server: Dell all; Client: PC or Macintosh

Operating system

Server: Windows 2000; Client: Windows or Macintosh

Error

Symptoms

***Applies to Prinergy Connect, Powerpack, Direct, Satellite, depending on installed configuration.***

Proofing output images on contone (256 shades) have wedges of detail missing.

Description of artifacts:

Imagine a scan line that starts at the left as a single line, then opens up at the end by up to 1/4 inch, making a triangle of missing data that lets the background show through. The bottom portion of the line is straight, right angle. Sometimes it is just a line, sometimes a wedge. Always starting from a photoshop EPS of bitmap data, that is, a photograph. Usually the same objects, but slightly different each time the image is RIPed and output.

Cause

The RIP is incorrectly interpreting the file when there's a small rotation on images and is leaving wedges of missing data.

Solution

There are several solutions:

A. Various transformations seem to resolve the problem.

In the process plan, set the layout to be 90 degrees different than the media or set output to be mirrored.

B. Alternatively, as this problem only affects contone output, do this:

1. In the process plan select the Render tab, and select DeviceCMYK, 1 shade, rather than DeviceCMYK, 256 shade.

2. Select the Calibration and Screening tab and pick an appropriate screen system/dot shape/ruling for the device. In the CreoScitex lab, outputting to a Xerox 5750, we use Creosettes/EllipticalP/133lpi, but YMMV. Open up the default Xerox process plan for a sample of how it should look if this is unclear.

Note that this problem has been fixed in Prinergy 2.0.7 minor update 2.0.7.17. To get help, Request Support Online.

Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0
