Symptoms |
Reapplying NT service pack 4 disables "Enable DNS for Windows Resolution". |
Cause |
Normally if you have a system configured without a DNS server(most customer sites), you would think there is no reason to have this setting enabled, and SP4 appears to turn it off because of this. However, Orbix stuff behaves erratically (if at all) if this setting is off even when there is no actual DNS server configured, so we make sure it is turned on. The reason it probably hasn't been a problem when re-applying SP4 is because every time you start up the Prinergy service, it runs a script that checks for this and other potential network configuration problems (including TCP/IP hostname not all lowercase version of NT computer name, and incorrect protocol binding order). |
