When Prinergy OPI merges DCS 1.0 files with JPEG compression, the images are low resolution

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0 ; Prinergy Connect 2.1

Platform

Server: Dell or Data General all; Client: PC or Macintosh

Operating system

Server: Windows NT or 2000; Client: Windows or Macintosh

Error

No error is reported.

Symptoms

***Applies to Prinergy Connect, Powerpack, Direct, Satellite, depending on installed configuration.***

When using OPI to merge DCS 1.0 files with JPEG compression the low resolution image is merged instead of high resolution data.

Since the low resolution image is RGB, there will also be a color difference.

Cause

OPI does not support DCS 1.0 with JPEG compression in composite PostScript. The OPI engine is not able to read the JPEG compression so it uses the low resolution instead.

Solution

Resave the DCS 1.0 files without JPEG compression or save them in DCS 2.0 format. For more information see: Prinergy Online help: OPI in Prinergy.

Rules to Follow when Using DCS Files with OPI

The benefits of Prinergy compositing the DCS files when using OPI to produce a composite page is that you have the benefits of a composite workflow: trapping and colormatching are possible.

Here are the DCS (raster files only) + OPI rules for Prinergy 1.1:

- Prinergy OPI will work with separated PS + DCS 1.0.

- Prinergy OPI will work with composite PS + Photoshop DCS 1.0 (OPI will recomposite the DCS 1.0 file into a composite image.)

- Prinergy OPI will work with separated PS + DCS 2.0.

Here are the additional DCS (raster files only) + OPI rules for Prinergy 2.0.5:

- Prinergy OPI will work with composite PS + Photoshop generated DCS 2.0 (with a limit of 8 total colours, Photoshop ONLY).

Here are the additional DCS (raster files only) + OPI rules for Prinergy 2.0.7:

- Prinergy OPI has been expanded to work with other raster DCS formats into composite PS. It will work with Renaissance, Copydot Toolkit, Autologic, DCSMaker, EskoScan/MonoScan, LinoColor, PCC, ProImage, and Photoshop-compatible.

NOTE: In all versions, Prinergy does not support DCS 1.0 with JPEG compression. It will merge the preview image instead of the high resolution image.
